Ceramic Bowl Project

For one of my first semester classes as a senior in high school, I chose to take Intro to the Visual Arts. In this class, we cover many of the basic visual arts such as ceramics, line art, color schemes, and self-portraits. This is the final piece for my Ceramic Bowl Project. It was created using clay slabs and glaze. In the middle, I stamped “EA Sports” because it reminded me of my childhood and all the fun memories I had playing games with my family.

This project was the most difficult project out of all my art pieces. In my opinion, clay is one of, if not the hardest type of artwork to make well. The delicate process of keeping the clay wet enough so it doesn’t crack but dry enough so that it doesn’t tear is very hard. To keep it wet after you are done working with it is also tricky and requires thinking ahead. The glazing process is not that difficult but I had to make sure I had the correct glazes for the kiln temperatures and that I had even layers.

I enjoyed this project a lot because I enjoy working with clay. I have already completed Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2 and I was excited to learn that we would be working with clay again in this class. Glazing is always a calm process that allows me to de-stress at the end of my day and most days I really need that. This is one of my favorite projects out of all of my art pieces and I am glad I participated in it.
